Our History:

A Legacy of Faith, Vision, and Divine Principle The Temple of Spiritual Truth (TST) was founded in 1969 by Bishop Harold E. Dade and The Reverend Dr. Jean Dade Batchie in the Spirit-filled atmosphere of their home. More than the birth of a church, it was the emergence of a spiritual movement—grounded in divine revelation, committed to biblical and metaphysical truth, and dedicated to building lives through the transforming power of God. What began as a humble gathering became a sacred center of healing, empowerment, and spiritual growth, where people learned to live in alignment with divine law and walk boldly in truth.
A Vision Takes Form: From Home to Holy Ground In the early years, Bishop Harold and Pastor Jean held services and taught spiritual classes from their home. As membership increased, the Temple moved to the YMCA on 51st Street, where it continued to grow in power and purpose under their leadership. “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” – Matthew 18:20 Soon, the need for a permanent church home became apparent. In the early 1970s, Spirit led Bishop Harold to a building at 5109 W. Chicago Avenue—a former tool factory. Many would have seen only limitations. But Bishop Harold, a master carpenter and visionary builder, saw a sanctuary. With skilled hands, a faith-filled heart, and divine insight, he gutted, rebuilt, and transformed the space into a sacred temple of worship and teaching. “With God all things are possible.” – Matthew 19:26 He often declared: “If you say you can or if you say you can’t, you’re right. But with God, all things are possible.” His words reflected a divine law: our thoughts and declarations shape the outcomes we experience. Spirit-Led Leadership Through the Generations In 1982, Bishop Harold transitioned from this life. The leadership of the Temple continued in the capable, Spirit-guided hands of Rev. Dr. Jean Dade Batchie, who served faithfully as Senior Pastor. A powerful teacher of truth, Pastor Jean nurtured the Temple’s spiritual maturity and led with grace, wisdom, and divine order. She frequently reminded the congregation: “All God wants for you is good—and absolute good.” Her message remains a core metaphysical truth of the ministry: God’s will is always for our wholeness, peace, and highest good. In 2014, Pastor Jean passed the baton of leadership to her assistant pastor, Rev. Sheila K. Hubbard. A woman of deep faith, spiritual strength, and compassion, Rev. Sheila served the people with excellence, dignity, and care. Under her leadership, the church experienced a major physical renovation, symbolizing not only outer renewal but also inner transformation. Rev. Sheila served faithfully until the time of her transition, leaving behind a legacy of love, clarity, and spiritual devotion. On June 24, 2017, Rev. Robert J.W. Hubbard was installed as Senior Pastor by Pastor Emerita Jean Dade Batchie. As the son of Rev. Sheila Hubbard, Pastor Rob carries both the spiritual legacy of his mother and the visionary passion of his founding ancestors. Known for his deep prayer life, progressive leadership, and powerful teaching, he continues to guide the Temple forward with divine vision and unwavering purpose. “God is constantly setting us up for new opportunities daily for the perfect outcome.” – Pastor Rob This affirmation speaks to a foundational truth of the Temple: God is always working behind the scenes, aligning events, people, and possibilities for our highest good. The Power of a Committed People While the vision was cast by inspired leaders, it was the steadfast faith, loving service, and spiritual maturity of the members that brought that vision to life. From the earliest days until now, the members of The Temple of Spiritual Truth have been the heart and soul of the ministry. They have prayed, tithed, taught, served, sung, cleaned, repaired, hosted, and supported the church through every season. Through good times and hard times, they have stood united in Spirit, dedicated to the work of Truth. They believed when it seemed uncertain, gave when it was inconvenient, and showed up with open hearts and willing hands. “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” – 1 Corinthians 12:27 Their devotion has not gone unnoticed. The transformation of the Temple over the years—from a humble gathering to a thriving spiritual center—is a living testimony to the power of a people walking in agreement with God’s divine purpose. The Temple’s success is not only the story of visionary leaders—it is the story of an empowered congregation. “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” – Proverbs 29:18 But where there is vision, and people with faith to carry it—miracles are made manifest. Through Every Season, God Has Kept Us Since its founding, the Temple has remained open and strong—never closed due to lack of funds, leadership, or direction. God has provided, and the people have responded. The Temple has undergone two major renovations: one under the leadership of Rev. Sheila Hubbard, and the most recent under Pastor Rob. These changes reflect the truth that as consciousness expands, so must the structures that support it. “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” – Philippians 1:6 A Living Legacy We honor the spiritual architects of our beloved Temple: Bishop Harold E. Dade – Visionary founder, master builder, and faith teacher. Rev. Dr. Jean Dade Batchie – Spiritual mother, truth speaker, and dedicated shepherd. Rev. Sheila K. Hubbard – Faithful pastor, compassionate leader, and renovator of hearts and sanctuary. Rev. Robert J.W. Hubbard – Present-day pastor, prophetic voice, and builder of a bold spiritual future. The Members of TST – The faithful ones who have carried the vision, kept the flame, and helped turn spiritual principle into living proof. “This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.” – Psalm 118:23 Affirmation: “The Spirit of the Lord goes before us and makes easy and successful our way. We are divinely led, spiritually grounded, and richly blessed. Together, we co-create the vision of God. And so it is.”
